Course Overview
Energy consumption from commercial and industry building is one of the greatest financial expenditures for businesses. By incorporating sustainable practices into the management of buildings and facilities, businesses can achieve substantial cost savings and at the same time, make positive impact on the environment.
In this course, learners will understand what is a “Green Building” and using the framework of Plan, Execute and Reflect (Sustainable Manufacturing: Fixing The Factory Floor), they are able to identify, adapt and make improvements towards the 7 clusters of sustainability initiatives. This will lead learners to strike a balance approach in achieving Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals.
The 7 clusters of sustainability initiatives that will be explored and studied in-depth are:

- Energy Management
- Waste Management
- Indoor Environment Quality
- Urban Greenery
- Green Building Operations and Management
- Material Sourcing and Management in Green Buildings

About the Faculty
Chia Ming Hang, Lester |
Lester began his career with the Housing & Development Board (HDB) as a researcher and engineer in the Smart Town Research and Planning Section and specializes in the area of clean energy and green buildings. During his 7 year stint with HDB, he oversaw the formulation and implementation of numerous programmes such as the SolarNova programme and Greenprint programme. He also published a paper in Elsevier on the Solar Capability Programme for Public Housing and won several awards such as the Singapore Energy Awards (Singapore) and Energy Globe Award (Austria). Lester is currently a 2nd generation business owner and engineering director in his company leading infrastructure projects in the oil & gas, energy, and biomedical sector. He has consulted for and worked with clients such as National Cancer Centre Singapore, Shell, General Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Siemens AG. He graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and obtained a Master of Business (MBA) from the same university. He also holds a graduate diploma in International Trading from Singapore Management University (SMU) and Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) and is currently a trainer with Intangibles Consultancy Pte Ltd. |
